The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law and Jewish Americans for Fairness in Education are suing the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights for dismissing a complaint against the University of Pennsylvania, in which the Brandeis Center alleged that Penn had fostered a hostile environment for Jewish students on its campus before and after the onset of the Israel-Hamas war last October.

According to the Brandeis Center’s press release, OCR stopped investigating the complaint after a lawsuit, which made similar allegations and sought systemic relief, was filed against the university. However, the center claims that this went against the regulations and procedures that dictate OCR's investigations.

The Brandeis Center, which has filed a swath of Title VI complaints related to antisemitism since Oct. 7, is asking for OCR’s actions to be declared unlawful and for the complaint to be reopened.
