Regis University’s information technology services were taken down Thursday in response to a cyberattack. As of noon Friday, the university’s email, phones and were still down.

Regis students were informed via Twitter that they would not be penalized for any difficulty they may experience submitting their work.

“We have prioritized restoring our online learning platform first and are focusing all our energies on getting you into your classes,” the university tweeted. “No student will be penalized for a system issue.”

Regis is not the only institution to suffer crippling IT issues just as students start returning to campus.

The Stevens Institute of Technology reported on Aug. 10 that it was the victim of a “very severe and sophisticated” cyberattack that forced it to intentionally take its systems and networks off-line for a week.

The university published an update on Aug. 22 indicating that almost all systems had been restored. Classes will start today as scheduled.
