Berkeley Suspends Professor for Harassment

The University of California, Berkeley, has suspended Alan Tansman, a prominent and tenured professor of East Asian studies, for two years, after finding that he sexually harassed a student, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The punishment includes stripping him of an endowed chair. Tansman and his lawyer did not respond to a request from the newspaper for comment, but the university said that he has denied the allegations.
