A First for Hillel: Campus Director Who Is Deaf

A profile in The Washington Post discusses the job and hopes of Jacob Salem (at right), the new Hillel director at Gallaudet University. Salem is the first campus Hillel director to be deaf. The piece discusses the challenges facing Jewish students at Gallaudet, some of whom grew up with a full Jewish identity, and others of whom felt ignored by Jewish educators. Salem is also a master's student at the university, studying public administration.
