Online education provider edX launched a new line of professional certificate programs Tuesday in fields such as coding, data science and digital marketing. The programs, which can be completed in two to six months, add another type of credential to edX's portfolio of offerings. The platform also offers individual courses, course sequences (called XSeries) and online-to-on-ground master's degree programs, known as MicroMasters. Thirteen companies, organizations and universities -- including Dartmouth College, the World Wide Web Consortium and Microsoft -- are behind the first 15 professional certificate programs, some of which began accepting learners Tuesday.
