A freshman at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University was arrested Wednesday in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old Blacksburg, Va., resident, the university said in a statement.

Isimemen Etute, a member of the Virginia Tech football team, was charged with second-degree murder. Etute was placed on an interim suspension from the university and has been suspended from the football team. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail without bond.
