VCU Awards All In-State Students Scholarships
Virginia Commonwealth University approved a one-time scholarship for all in-state undergraduates, equal to the 3 percent increase in tuition for next year.
VCU president Michael Rao said, “Based upon the state’s generous support, we are better positioned to provide these one-time scholarships to in-state undergraduate students. This will be difficult financially, but we believe it is the right thing to do.”
The university acted after Governor Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, urged all public colleges that planned tuition increases for next year to reverse them. “Our families, especially middle-class families, are just feeling the pressure right now with rising costs,” Aimee Guidera, the secretary of education, told The Richmond Times-Dispatch.
