The University of North Carolina system will likely have to pay at least $32 million to clean up college campuses and fix buildings damaged by Hurricane Helene, NC Newsline reported.
Repairing the structural damage will cost about $18 million, university officials said last week, while cleanup is estimated to cost $14 million. The system is expecting insurance to cover some of the costs. Officials believe the system will lose $19 million in revenue due to the storm, which caused several campuses to close for at least a few weeks.
“While those are not anything to blink at, I do think our system fared very well,” said Jennifer Haygood, chief financial officer for the system, according to NC Newsline.
