  • The Schuler Education Foundation plans to give $500 million to up to 25 liberal arts colleges -- including Bates, Carleton and Union -- to expand access for underserved students.
  • The University of California is planning to add 20,000 students to its system by 2030.
  • If they want to cash in on the Democrats’ free community college plan, some states will need to increase funding for higher education by more than 40 percent.
  • Congressional Democrats and the Biden administration are looking into adding a means test to the free community college provision of the Build Back Better Act.
  • A majority of academic leaders believe that conflicts between students of different ideological groups are unlikely or very unlikely to occur on their campuses this year, according to a recent survey by the Association of American Colleges and Universities and the Center for University Excellence at American University.
