Rachel Toor is a professor of creative writing at Eastern Washington University in Spokane and a contributing editor at Inside Higher Ed. Her next book, Why You, Why Me, Why Now: The Mindset and Moves to Land That First Job, From Networking to Cover Letters, Resumes, and Interviews, a guide for recent graduates on presenting themselves in the job search, will be published in early 2024 by the University of Chicago Press.
Rachel is the author of six other books of nonfiction, including Write Your Way In: Crafting an Unforgettable College Admissions Essay (Chicago, 2017) and a young adult novel published by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux. She wrote for The Chronicle of Higher Education for 26 years and her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Ploughshares, Glamour, Inside Higher Ed, Reader’s Digest, Runner’s World, Ascent, JAMA (The Journal of the American Medical Association), AARP The Magazine and a variety of academically oriented publications. She is a recovering acquistions editor (Oxford and Duke University Press) and undergraduate admissions officer (Duke).
