MOOCs in 2020: An $8.5 Billion Industry

Massive open online courses are estimated to become an $8.5 billion industry by 2020, growing from $1.83 billion today, according to a report by market research firm MarketsandMarkets. The report finds major opportunities for growth in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East as more learners there seek access to education regardless of physical location. The main challenges facing MOOCs, according to the report, are strictly technical, including the need for more advanced information systems.
