In today’s Academic Minute, Monmouth University's Katherine Parkin examines a fading American custom that made it acceptable for a woman to propose marriage. Parkin is an associate professor of American history at Monmouth and author of “ 'Glittering Mockery': Twentieth-Century Leap Year Marriage Proposals," which appeared in the Journal of Family History.
