Depending on your point of view, I either did something rash in accepting an invitation to participate in The Ohio State University’s International Chekhov Conference, “Chekhov on Stage and Page,” or else I’m living the dream. As you know if you’ve read this blog a while, Chekhov is important to me, and I often use his stories in my classes. Attending the conference next week is only partly about working up an essay for publication; mostly I get to hear heavyweight scholars and writers from around the world speak on one of my favorite authors, on the 150th anniversary of his birth.
In any case, I haven’t taken the three days off that this week seemed to offer, what with the kids trapped in school until Thursday. Instead I've been reading and taking notes so I can try to pass as chekoved. It's as hopeless as trying to pass off a rock pigeon as a turkey, and though I quail at the task ahead of me, I need to get it done or my goose will be cooked.
Still, I wanted to duck in here and wish you a happy holiday and offer thanks for your readership, as always. You won’t believe the cranberry relish I’ve made for dinner; be here by two or all the associate provosts will have finished it.
