So much emotion. That's what was going through my head (and heart?) when I watched the first video in this list. In fact, I was so captivated by the stories and emotional swell that I literally forgot how to write...that's always a good sign in my book.
Presented without any agenda or order (or expiration date), here are 5 university videos that are incredibly captivating:
"Dear Ram" from Colorado State University is a phenomenal piece of work. Tears flow and you watch for the inevitable catharsis. For an in-depth read about the creative process and reaction surrounding the video, check out: 5 Things We Learned from the Making of 'Dear Ram.'
The Open University knows how to share the story of their students. As funding and support for part-time education wanes in the UK, this commercial from the OU loudly says "we will not go quietly into the night"...or something like that. Seriously though, it's a moving video that captures the importance of higher education for everyone.
Love it or hate it, this commercial from the University of Phoenix has more than 280,000 views. While most people aren't a fan of Phoenix, it's important to note that they still have people who are graduating from their programs. It can't be easy to be a graduate from such a vilified place. Can you imagine how hard it must be to have loads of financial debt AND the burden of a diploma that bears a scarlet "P." If you ask me, the tagline of "We Rise" is an honest telling of that experience.
Get ready for a lot of 360 degree videos. As virtual reality (VR) technologies continue to improve, keep an eye out for a big push by university content creators. Keele University's clip may not have a lot of narration, but it does showcase their picturesque campus. And, the soundtrack of the clip makes me think that someone is a fan of prolific vlogger and YouTuber extraordinaire, Casey Neistat.
"Deng Thiak Adut Unlimited" from Western Sydney University is one minute and 30 seconds of an unbelievable story (that really happened) in the form of a higher education short film/commercial. While it was created by an agency, hence the overall quality and cinematography, the impact is tremendous.
What higher education videos would you add to this list?
