It's a good thing that the 2010 EDUCAUSE Annual Conference is in October because it reminds me of Halloween candy -- so many amazing goodies to discover! For folks who are not familiar with EDUCAUSE, the annual conference has a bit of everything for anybody who is interested in technology:
"Whether your focus is on administration, teaching and learning, information technology infrastructure, information systems, cybersecurity, policy, library systems or information technology leadership, there's something at the annual conference for you."
Here is a list of some of the sessions that piqued my interest as I was browsing through the EDUCAUSE 2010 conference schedule. While I might not be able to attend all of them, they certainly caught my attention:
Blogging
- Blogging About Educational Technology: A Discussion for Current and Prospective Bloggers by Inside Higher Ed Technology and Learning Blogger - Joshua Kim - I've been an avid reader of Joshua's blog prior to my current involvement with Inside Higher Ed. I can't wait to engage in a discussion about blogging while at Educause.
Research
- What Undergraduates Say About Technology: Results from the 2010 ECAR Student Study - Quite often there is a significant difference between what we think and what our students think. I'm hoping this session sheds some light on what our students are saying.
- Using the Horizon Report in Planning and Implementation - The Horizon Report is one of my favorite annual reports. Don't judge me, it's amazing!
Social Media
- Social Media - The simplest title of all time, however, I am predicting an epic discussion.
- Pedagogical Consideration in Implementing Social Media: Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and More - The facilitators for this session have put out a call for your use of social media. I love that their program has such a long arc of creation and engagement.
- Managing Your Social Media - I predict that a lot of administrators will be in attendance at this session.
- Top-10 Questions to Consider When Implementing Social Media: Perspectives of Different Campuses I love lists...and I especially love sessions that guarantee multi-campus examples of social media use.
Accessibility
- Improving Accessibility for All: Using Universal Design for Media, Mobile Devices, and the Web - Sounds like a perfect combination.
- Audio and Video Accessibility: Strategies and Workflows - I hope that this session addresses the issue of how a lot of places provide podcasts but fail to incorporate text-based transcripts for students who cannot hear.
- Athletic Rivalries and Web Accessibility: Who Is in the Sweet 16 This Year? - Sports and Accessibility. Game on!

- Virtual Face-to-Face: Rethinking Admissions Interviews - Having spent a fair amount of time working with Enrollment Management folks, I am ever so curious to attend this session.
- The Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement of Women in Higher Education IT - This is so important. I hope that this session room is packed with attendees. Let's make this happen.
- Tips, Tricks, and Technology to Help You Successfully Manage Your Time - I am so busy that any additional means of making myself more efficient would make my day!
- Digital Signage as a Campus-Level Service - The Ohio Union has an unbelievable amount of LCD displays. It's a prime example of how digital signage can dramatically impact a campus union. I love learning about the intersections of digital displays in physical spaces.
- Down the Rabbit Hole: Augmented and Alternate Reality for Learning - The potential for augmented reality applications in student affairs is an untapped growth area. I will gladly go down the rabbit hole.
