What e-books and audiobooks did you read in 2011?
My big hope is that you will share. Generating this list was easy for me, as Amazon provides a list of all Audible and Kindle purchases under "Manage Your Kindle" and then view "All Items." The ability to quickly view (and share) my reading history is one of the benefits I see in buying (or borrowing) digital books. I'm not sure how to generate such a list for Nook or Kobo folks.
3 Reasons To Share Our Digital Book Lists:
Community: One definition for community is a people that share the same books. I know that this method for figuring out where our reading overlap will result in failure. Few, if any, of our IHE community members are likely to post their list (thanks in advance to anyone who does). Maybe in the future someone will figure out a business model that allows communities like our IHE group to more easily share what we are reading. But this could be a start.
Remembering: Or more accurately, forgetting. I think we have a reasonable chance of our book lists, posted up on IHE, staying around (and searchable) for many years to come. I have no idea what books I read in 2005 or 2000 or 1995, and this is a loss. The more places we put up our book lists the more likely that some copy will be retained.
Advertising: My hypothesis is that our IHE community reads (and pays for) digital books at a much greater rate than other web aggregated communities. We own superb eyeballs for targeted e-book advertising. Not only do we buy lots of digital books, we tell our colleagues, students, and friends about what we are reading. IHE is an ad supported site. The more ads, the more reporters, and the more news. An advertisement for an e-book works wonderfully on the web, as with one click we can jump to a place to download a sample chapter or buy the book. Digital booksellers and publishers should take notice.
