  • The United States should double the number of college students graduating with degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics degrees by 2015 to avoid losing its edge in the global economic competition, the Business Roundtable said in a report Wednesday. The group of business leaders called the country's overdependence on foreign nationals in these fields a "national problem that demands national leadership and a sense of national purpose to create the impetus for crucial state, local, private and individual action."
  • A Maryland appeals court has reversed a judge's 2004 decision that allowed Sojourner-Douglass College to construct a new facility on land with covenant restrictions, The Capital of Annapolis reported. The ruling, which came just days after the college formally opened the new campus, could conceivably result in the building being razed.
