- President Bush has nominated Bruce Cole for a second four-year term as chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Prior to joining the Bush administration, he was a professor of fine arts and comparative literature at Indiana University.
- The King's College, an evangelical college in New York City, has won a five-year extension of its accreditation from the New York State Board of Regents. After a board committee earlier recommended an extension of only one year, King's and its supporters accused critics of political correctness and hostility to its religious, traditional curriculum -- charges that New York officials strenuously denied.
- Hank Brown, who started Monday as president of the University of Colorado system, until a permanent replacement is named, eliminated 10 jobs from his office, according to The Denver Business Journal. The university should save about $824,000 a year.
- The University of Texas System is receiving $1.8 million as part of the settlement of a patent dispute with Research in Motion, the company that makes BlackBerry devices.
