  • Tulane University's School of Medicine will start up again this week -- in temporary quarters at Texas medical institutions. Faculty members from Tulane will lead courses and the school hopes to make the education as comparable as possible to what students would have received in New Orleans. First- and second-year students will be taught in facilities at the Baylor College of Medicine. Third- and fourth-year programs will be offered at the Baylor College of Medicine, the Texas A&M University Medical Center, the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
  • The National Collegiate Athletic Association issued a statement Friday formally stating what officials had said earlier: The association will not relax its transfer rules as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Such a relaxation, the NCAA said, would create an "open season for recruiters" seeking to lure athletes away from the colleges in New Orleans that have shut down for the fall semester.
