  • Fisk University has announced plans to sell two paintings -- one by Georgia O'Keefe and one by Marsden Hartley -- to raise money for a science building and other projects, Nashville City Paper reported. The paintings are part of a collection of modern art donated by O'Keefe to the historically black institution.
  • Faculty members at Samford University are worried that a planned lecture on the campus by an advocate of intelligent design will undercut the academic reputation of the institution, The Birmingham News reported. The Faculty Senate is studying the issue, but administrators say that bringing in the speaker will have no influence on science classes.
  • The California Student Aid Commission has sent about 1,000 letters to recipients of student aid, telling them that they probably weren't eligible for the aid -- and must give their grants back to the state, The Sacramento Bee reported (free registration required). Most of the students are community college graduates who moved on to four-year institutions, but who may not have graduated from California high schools, The Bee said.
