Over the objections of athletes and alumni, the Board of Governors of Missouri State University on Friday voted to eliminate five teams: men's indoor track, men's outdoor track, men's cross county, and men's and women's tennis. University officials said that the move was necessary to save money. The cuts are expected to result in at least $350,000 in annual savings.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled last week that legislative approval was sufficient for the State Regents for Higher Education to issue $50 million in bonds as part of a matching grant program for endowed chairs at the state's public colleges and universities. The bond issue had been challenged by two activists who said that it would amount to the type of debt barred by the state's Constitution, but the Supreme Court rejected that argument.
The Texas Supreme Court overturned lower court rulings that found that the Dallas Community College District lacked the authority to impose a technology fee on students. The Supreme Court found that the district did have the authority, and as a result, the latest ruling voids orders that the district repay $15 million in the class action case.
