- A new proposal in the U.S. Senate would require recipients of federal research grants to publish their findings online, free, within six months of publication in journals, The Washington Post reported.
- Brandeis University is facing criticism for pulling an exhibit of Palestinian art from the library four days into what was to have been a two-week showing, The Boston Globe reported. University officials said that the exhibit portrayed only one side of the conflict, but critics say that Brandeis is engaged in censorship.
- Authorities on Wednesday arrested a University of Maryland at College Park student and charged him with murder and arson in last year's death of another student in an off-campus house, The Washington Post reported. The Post said that the arrested student was believed to have exchanged angry words with people at a party at the house he allegedly set on fire.
- Two groups of libraries -- the OCLC Online Computer LIbrary Center and the Research Library Group -- plan to merge and to combine their catalogs.
