  • The University of Missouri at Columbia has agreed to recognize a Christian fraternity, even though that group violates the university's ban on religious discrimination, the Associated Press reported. The fraternity -- like similar groups at other campuses -- argued that its right to religioius expression entitles it to restrict membership.
  • Damage from a tornado on Christmas Day caused at least $50 million in damage at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported. The tornado hit dozens of airplanes -- as well as buildings -- at the university, which has pushed the start of the spring semester back by six days, to January 16.
  • A Congressional aide has been fired after contacting two people authorities say he believed could break into the Texas Christian University computer system and change his grades, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
  • Simon Fraser University, in British Columbia, is facing criticism for removing two crosses from its seal and replacing them with books, Canada.com reported. University officials said that they were trying to avoid giving the false impression that the university is a religious institution.
