• Mount Mercy College, in Iowa: Terry Waite, humanitarian and hostage negotiator.
• New York University: Alec Baldwin, the actor.
• Northwestern University: Christiane Amanpour, chief international correspondent for CNN.
• Saint Mary's College, in Indiana: Sylvia Earle, the marine biologist.
