  • Dann Brown, associate provost at Lamar University, in Texas, has been promoted to provost and vice president for academic affairs there.
  • Alison Buckley, vice president for enrollment management and student affairs for the Connecticut State Community Colleges system, has been appointed president of the State University of New York at Ulster.
  • Kenneth Elmore, associate provost and dean of students at Boston University, in Massachusetts, has been selected as president of Dean College, also in Massachusetts.
  • Xuanning Fu, interim provost at California State University, Fresno, has been appointed to the job on a permanent basis.
  • Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson, acting superintendent/president at San Joaquin Delta College, in California, has been named to the job on a permanent basis.
  • Danny Long, acting president of Enterprise State Community College, in Alabama, has been appointed to the job on a permanent basis.
  • Michelle Mattson, provost and professor of German at Wittenberg University, in Ohio, has been chosen as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Carleton College, in Minnesota.
  • Jayathi Y. Murthy, Ronald and Valerie Sugar Dean at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of California, Los Angeles, has been selected as president of Oregon State University.
  • Colleen Simpson, vice president of student services and regional learning centers at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, has been chosen as president of Front Range Community College, in Colorado.
  • Kristen Porter-Utley, dean of the Bartlett College of Science and Mathematics at Bridgewater State University, in Massachusetts, has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Framingham State University, also in Massachusetts.

Doug Lederman

Doug Lederman is editor and co-founder of Inside Higher Ed. He helps lead the news organization's editorial operations, overseeing news content, opinion pieces, career advice, blogs and other features. Doug speaks widely about higher education, including on C-Span and National Public Radio and at meetings and on campuses around the country, and his work has appeared in The New York Times and USA Today, among other publications. Doug was managing editor of The Chronicle of Higher Education from 1999 to 2003. Before that, Doug had worked at The Chronicle since 1986 in a variety of roles, first as an athletics reporter and editor. He has won three National Awards for Education Reporting from the Education Writers Association, including one in 2009 for a series of Inside Higher Ed articles he co-wrote on college rankings. He began his career as a news clerk at The New York Times. He grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and graduated in 1984 from Princeton University. Doug lives with his wife, Kate Scharff, in Bethesda, Md.
