An official who oversees Greek life at the University of Oregon was put on leave last week for posting an expletive-filled video of himself lambasting supporters of President-elect Donald Trump, according to KDRV NewsWatch12.
“You can literally go fuck yourself if you voted for Donald Trump,” Leonard Serrato, the university’s fraternity and sorority life assistant director, said in an Instagram story. “If you are so sad about your groceries being expensive, get a better-fucking-paying job. Do better in life. Get a fucking education. Do something. Because you’re fucking stupid. And I hope you go jump off of a fucking bridge.”
The university condemned Serrato’s comments.
“The University of Oregon finds the statements made in the video abhorrent and not in alignment with our values or mission,” a statement from the university read. “We appreciate the conflict between his statements, his role in Student Life at the University, and our institutional values.”
The statement also noted that the post had been taken down and the university was “reviewing the matter under university policies and the individual’s role as a public employee.”
“As a public university we take our duty seriously to provide an environment that welcomes diversity of thought and respect in alignment with our education mission,” the statement continued. “While we investigate, we are providing support for concerned students and employees, including resources for mental and emotional health.”
Serrato’s remarks also evoked a reaction from Donald Trump Jr., reported Fox 12. The video was “disgusting, but not surprising, that an employee at a state university would speak this way about more than half of the country,” he said.
