It's hard to tell exactly what the Trump administration's U.S. Education Department has planned when it comes to encouraging innovation in higher education (although a top official offered a few more hints at a conference in Washington Tuesday). But at least one part of the agency -- its Office of Educational Technology -- isn't waiting for the politicians to send out smoke signals.

The office has announced a competition called Reimagining the Higher Education Ecosystem, which encourages teams to submit "bold ideas for how our postsecondary education system could be reimagined to foster equity and encourage learner agency and resilience." Submissions are encouraged in three areas: curating lifelong learning pathways, creating a marketplace for student learning and leveraging emerging technology.

No funds are attached, but winners will have a chance to present at a summit the department plans in the fall. More details can be found here.
