Revenues for the Apollo Group, which controls the University of Phoenix, for the three months ending February 28 were more than 25 percent higher than the comparable period a year ago, Apollo said in its quarterly earnings report. Enrollments as of February 28 at Phoenix and Apollo's other institutions were also about 25 percent higher than they were a year ago, 283,800 students compared to 227,800 students on February 29, 2004. But those increases were not enough for some investors, who wanted to see more growth, according to an article in The Arizona Republic.
Faculty members at Si Tanka University ended the spring semester on Monday, several weeks early, because they have not been paid since mid-February, according to an article in The Argus Leader. Si Tanka is a college in South Dakota affiliated with the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe.
The University of Minnesota will release today two reports that, taken together, are expected to propose a radical reshaping of the huge and sprawling institution, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported (free registration required). Among the proposals that could be controversial is one to remake General College, which is the primary avenue into the university for underprepared students.
