Less than a tenth of students feel their college education fully prepared them for their careers, according to a new large survey by Instructure, the education technology company behind Canvas.
Instructure surveyed nearly 8,000 current and former students from 12 different countries. Over all, 68 percent of participants said they felt prepared for their careers by college, and only 8.7 percent said they had been “fully” prepared. The survey also found a tendency for current students to overestimate their career preparedness. Eleven percent of current college students said they felt college was “fully preparing” them for their careers, while only 6 percent felt the same after entering the workforce.
Outside the United States, Japan reported the lowest levels of satisfaction with college career preparation, and the U.S. ranked near the top, coming in just under Colombia, India and Brazil.
