The University of Vermont has called off a scheduled December game by its women's basketball team against that of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, citing North Carolina's law requiring public institutions to bar transgender people from using bathrooms that reflect their gender identity, The Burlington Free Press reported. A statement from the University of Vermont said, "We strive very hard to create an inclusive climate for our students and staff in which they all can feel safe, respected and valued. It would be hard to fulfill these obligations while competing in a state with this law, which is contrary to our values as an athletic department and university."
