Even amid public debate over the offensiveness of blackface images from decades ago, some students today continue to pose in blackface. At the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, an image of students, some in blackface, was posted to social media recently and then widely shared by students angered by the image.

The university issued a statement that said in part, "Earlier today, the university was made aware of a screengrab of a Snapchat photo that included four individuals we believe to be our students. Two of them were in blackface. The image is repulsive and the caption abhorrent. The racism displayed in this image does not represent the behavior we expect of students or our Volunteer values."
