U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, has released a report, one in a series on college sports, demanding that athletes be paid -- calling it a "civil rights issue."

Murphy, in the 15-page report titled "Madness Inc.: How Everyone Is Getting Rich Off College Sports -- Except the Players," highlights how those involved in sports benefit financially -- the advertisers, executives, coaches and other college officials.

The report notes that the National Collegiate Athletic Association, which is in the swing of its March Madness men's basketball tournament, generated more than $14 billion over the past year.
