Brown Didn't Raise Much Money for Providence Schools

In 2007, the then-president of Brown University, Ruth Simmons, pledged to raise $10 million for the Providence school district. Brown raised $1.9 million, The Boston Globe reported. "While we set a goal of raising $10 million in endowed funds, we were met with the reality that this particular giving opportunity didn't resonate as much with donors," said a spokesman.
