A chaplain at Princeton University has stepped down following accusations of his abusing a minor in 1975.

The Reverend Gabriel Zeis has denied the accusations but has resigned effective immediately while the allegations are being investigated by the Third Order Regular Franciscans, reports NJ.com.

Father Zeis was employed by the Diocese of Trenton and was not a university employee, so his resignation was not handled by the university, according to a Princeton spokesperson.

The alleged event took place while Father Zeis was in seminary. He had not been accused of wrongdoing at Princeton or in his previous position at Saint Francis University.
