Over the past week, four hand-drawn swastikas have been found on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, reports the News-Gazette.

The hate symbol was depicted most recently in an elevator and on a study table in the library. Two more were found earlier, one in the foreign languages building and the other in a residence hall. Campus police are investigating the situation.

It is unclear how recent any of the graffiti is, but university police said at least one appears to be old. Additionally, authorities do not believe the incidents are related to each other.

Last month a controversial presentation in a university residence hall on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict led to claims of anti-Semitism. The university's chancellor, Robert Jones, in an email to the campus this week denounced the appearance of the swastikas and any prejudice that made students feel uncomfortable.
