Cengage, one of the major publishers of textbooks and instructional materials, announced this week that it would begin a subscription service that would give individual students access to its entire digital portfolio for one price. As reported by Inside Higher Ed, the company described its strategy as a "bold move" that would reduce students' costs, and analysts by and large agreed that it represents a notable departure from the traditional publishing sales model as printed textbooks continue to decline.
