A Kansas community college has settled a lawsuit filed by the mother of a student who died in 2021 after a grueling football workout, KCUR reported.
Terms of Fort Scott Community College’s settlement over the death of Tirrell Williams, who was 19 at the time of his death, were not disclosed. His mother had filed a lawsuit accusing the two-year institution of negligence and of violating Williams’ civil rights. The lawsuit alleged that the college’s coach put the players through a grueling workout to punish them because trash was found on the field. Williams collapsed on the field and died two weeks later in a local hospital.
Fort Scott dropped its football program later in 2021, citing financial issues.
