Numerous college campuses in Louisiana announced closures Tuesday in preparation for Tropical Storm Francine. Experts expect the storm to strengthen into a category-two hurricane before hitting the Louisiana coast late today.
Instead of canceling classes altogether, the majority of institutions, including Louisiana State, Tulane and Xavier Universities, have transitioned to remote learning for part—or all—of this week, according to The Louisiana Illuminator, which compiled a list of hurricane plans for colleges and universities across the state.
And in many cases, residence halls will remain open for students, including at LSU and McNeese, Nicholls and Northwestern State Universities, as well as the University of New Orleans.
