Jurors on Saturday deadlocked and a mistrial was declared in the murder trial of Ray Tensing, a former police officer at the University of Cincinnati, the Associated Press reported. Tensing was fired after he shot and killed a black man he pulled over off campus last year. Video of the incident left many in the area saying that this was another in a series of unjustified police shootings of unarmed black men. Tensing has said he felt in danger before he shot the man, Sam DuBose.

After the mistrial was declared, Beverly J. Davenport, interim president of the university, issued a statement on Twitter expressing sympathy to DuBose's family, and said, "We cannot and will not let the outcome of this trial divide us. We remain steadfast in our commitment to building a just community anchored in trust, care, integrity and equity."
