Miami Dade College's trustees have axed a plan to build a new cultural center in the city's downtown because of the declining real estate market and a feud with a local art dealer, according to The Miami Herald.
The two-year institution had spent years planning to create a modern theater, museum and conference center to host film festivals, events and presidential debates. However, the college has been defending a number of lawsuits from an art dealer who submitted an unsolicited proposal last year to build a college cultural center and luxury condos. The college decided to go a different direction than with the art dealer and his development team.
The trustees said there's nothing stopping them from eventually pursuing the redevelopment at a later date.
