Achieving the Dream announced a new Open Educational Resources Degree Initiative Wednesday in an effort to lower the cost of college and increase completion rates.

The initiative calls for about 30 community colleges to create OER degree programs, and interested colleges are encouraged to contact Achieving the Dream to apply.

“Open educational resources are valuable for colleges and their students in terms of invigorating teaching and learning, lowering costs and laying the groundwork for degree programs that meet up-to-the-minute student and employer needs,” said Karen Stout, president and chief executive officer of Achieving the Dream. “Community colleges are just beginning to use OER, so this initiative will help build out a new dimension of the student success agenda.”
