George M. Zinkhan III, who holds an endowed chair at the University of Georgia, is the prime suspect in a triple murder on Saturday, and is at large. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that police said Sunday that ZInkhan is "probably in hiding somewhere" and may be in a state of "desperation." Zinkhan is wanted in the shooting deaths of three people, including his wife and Thomas C. Tanner, a former Georgia researcher who is now at Clemson University, according to The Greenville News. The University of Georgia posted an alert about the situation on its Web site, even though the shooting was off campus, advising people that Zinkhan may be armed and dangerous. The university also issued a statement from President Michael F. Adams saying: “The university community is shocked and saddened at this tragic event. Our first thoughts are for safety of the community and for prompt apprehension of the person responsible. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all those who have been affected.” Zinkhan's faculty profile Web page shows that he is the Coca-Cola Professor of Marketing, and that before coming to Georgia, he taught at the University of Houston and the University of Pittsburgh.
