Arkansas State University has removed decals of crosses from the football team's helmets, amid complaints that the crosses endorsed religion in a way that is inconsistent with the separation of church and state, USA Today reported. The crosses honored the memories of a former player and a former equipment manager who both died this year. Athletics officials said that they were disappointed to remove the crosses, but did so on the advice of the university's lawyers.
