Iowa's New President Is Choice Faculty Opposed

The Iowa Board of Regents this afternoon selected Bruce Harreld, a businessman who has not led academic institutions, as the next president of the University of Iowa. As soon as his name was announced as a finalist, faculty members started speaking out against his selection, saying he lacked the necessary experience in higher education. A poll of faculty members on Wednesday found that only 3 percent believed he was qualified to be Iowa's next president.
