Tom Brokaw Better Stay Away From Tuscaloosa

May 17, 2016

Tom Brokaw, the retired NBC anchor, was the commencement speaker Saturday at the University of Mississippi, and joked about the intelligence of students at the University of Alabama:

The joke about needing to use smaller words at Alabama is not playing well with the university's students and alumni. Twitter is full of comments using words of all kinds of lengths (and some not suitable to reprint here) questioning Brokaw.

Here's one, slightly out-of-date about who is leading NBC News, but getting some play in the state:

The university released a statement saying: "Thirty-six percent of the freshman class at the University of Alabama has an ACT score of 30 or higher. This places Alabama in the top 5 percent in the country. Our numbers speak for themselves."
