A former fraternity member at Towson University was found guilty of hazing this week.

Alexander Cantor, 22, was found guilty of hazing and sentenced to a six-month probation ending late November, online court records show. Cantor’s six-month jail sentence was suspended. He was found not guilty of reckless endangerment for the hazing episode last year.

The Towson chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon was suspended until the 2021-22 academic year after a 19-year-old student was sent to the hospital, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Police said the student was forced to undergo strenuous workouts while recounting facts about the fraternity and he was made to drink a caustic substance that burned his mouth, esophagus and digestive tract.

Cantor’s conviction comes at a time when prosecutors around the country are more aggressively pursuing hazing cases, experts say.

The other student charged in the incident, Evan Francis, was placed on probation before judgment in October 2016.
