Carol Christine Fair, Provost’s Distinguished Associate Professor in security studies at Georgetown University, is no longer teaching this semester, following a Twitter tirade against then-U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and his supporters, Fox News reported. “Look at [this] chorus of entitled white men justifying a serial rapist’s arrogated entitlement,” she wrote, after calling Kavanaugh a “rapist” and “perjurer.” All “of them deserve miserable deaths while feminists laugh as they take their last gasps,” she wrote. “Bonus: we castrate their corpses and feed them to swine? Yes.”
A Georgetown spokesperson reportedly told Fox News Fair is not teaching anymore and will be traveling internationally for university research. Joel Hellman, dean of Georgetown’s School of Foreign Services, said in a statement that to “prevent further disruption to her students and out of an abundance of caution for the security of our community, we have mutually agreed for Prof. Fair to go on research leave effective immediately.” The move is an “acceleration” of previously scheduled international research, he said.
Hellman added, “We can and do strongly condemn the use of violent imagery, profanity, and insensitive labeling of individuals based on gender, ethnicity or political affiliation in any form of discourse.” Fair has since said on Twitter that she doesn’t condone violence, but was rather attempting to make “YOU as UNCOMFORTABLE [emphasis hers] as I am using the language of the abuse I receive by the hundreds.” Kavanaugh has since been confirmed and sworn in as a justice.
