The man arrested this week in last month's disappearance and death of a University of Utah student was prohibited from the campus of Utah State University in 2012, the Associated Press reported.

Ayoola A. Ajayi was arrested after the remains of Mackenzie Lueck were found in his backyard. She had been missing since June 17.

Utah State reportedly blocked him from its campus after the Nigerian man's student visa expired and he was arrested on suspicion of having a stolen an iPad, the AP said. He had stopped attending class there the year before but continued to sleep on residence hall couches and keep things in a janitor's closet, police and university documents showed. A Utah State spokesman told the wire service that Ajayi had been allowed to re-enroll in 2015 after resolving his immigration status.
