Following public outcry, the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee has removed an advertisement featuring an African American woman with crime-scene tape wrapped around her neck.
The controversial ad depicted a criminal justice student using the tape as a prop. The ad was part of a poster campaign intended to promote the criminal justice department.
Students, alumni and others online complained about the image, calling it racist and offensive.
The university has apologized for the portrayal and any offense taken. Officials noted in a statement that students of all races were included in the original campaign and that the university worked with the students involved in the creation of the images.
