Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences has dropped a requirement that all applicants take two SAT Subject Tests.

Irene Lessmeister, director of admission at the College of Arts and Sciences, said, "The faculty broadly supported the elimination of the SAT Subject Test requirement, agreeing that it presented an access and cost barrier to many applicants, including those who face the largest number of personal and practical hurdles on their way to college -- we have seen a yearly increase in the number of otherwise well-qualified students who submit their application without SAT Subject Tests."

According to Cigus Vanni, an independent admissions counselor who tracks the issue, there are four colleges that still require all applicants to take Subject Tests: California Institute of Technology, Harvey Mudd College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Puerto Rico.
